2024 Bicentennial of Inti Raymi

Hello Brothers and Sisters of Andean Wisdom Path! The special day in Cusco has finally arrived!

Today is the bicentennial of the great celebration of Inti Raymi, the festival of the Sun - a modern rendition of the ancient Inca ceremony here in Cusco, once the center (or should I say, Qosqo or "navel") of the Inca empire. It was brought back to life 200 years ago after being prohibited by the Catholic Church. Now it is the pride of the Peruvian people, and attracts thousands from around the world to watch the great spectacle.

The best part of this ceremony re-enactment takes place at the great archeological site, Sacsayhuaman (mispronounced "Sexy Woman") above the city of Cusco.

Here is a collection of moments we recorded that highlight some important parts of the Inti Raymi ceremony. We begin as the Inca army dances onto the field. Then the Inca priest offers chicha, the sacred fermented corn beverage of the Andean people, to the Apus (sacred mountains) and to Inti Tayta (our Father Sun), followed by the King Inca and his Qoya, his principal wife, offering chicha to the Sun Father as well.
