surrounded by views of the magnificent and powerful major Apus of the Cusco region

Your Day of Initiation

On this exciting day we drive to the peak of Apu Mama Simona, where you will reach the height of your education on Andean mysticism during your 7 magical days with us.

Bring your Andean weavings and a watana to tie them, in order to create and bless your “mesa”, the principal tool used by Andean priests and priestesses (“paq’os”).

Participate in the traditional “Haywariquy” ceremony practiced by Andean paq’os through the millenia. In this beautiful offering of prayers and symbolic gifts, the essential cosmology of the Andean culture is expressed. .

Program of the Day

Morning ~

After breakfast at your hotel, we will take you to a beautiful point on Apu Mama Simona, where a wise and experienced Andean priest will invite you to participate in the Haywariquy ceremony. While the prayers are in the native Quechua language, Karupureq will translate them into English and Flamissia will explain the symbolic significance of each part of this meaningful ceremony.

Noon ~

As we gaze upon the stunning view of the glistening glaciers around us, we will relax afterwards with a picnic lunch. Sandwiches with a variety of fixings and fruit will be provided, with thermoses of hot muña tea to warm the belly. We are happy to accommodate gluten free or vegetarian requests.

Afternoon ~

After lunch we will invite you to find a private place to meditate, reflect and connect with the spirit of Apu Mama Simona. In your meditation you will be encouraged to respectfully ask the Apu to give you a “kuya”, a stone for your “mesa” that you can work with to maintain your connection with this Apu, no matter where you go.

For those who are in good enough physical condition, we will offer a little trek further up the mountain. If we have time to reach the top, we will see the female head of the Apu Mama Simona. Or you can stay near the car and enjoy taking photos and relaxing with friends.
